1. ARE THERE ANIMALS STILL THERE? Yes, they are all still here. At present there are 8 buffalo, 14 eland, springbok, bushbuck, bontebok, rabbits, chickens and ostriches. One in particularly who likes attention! 2. HOW BIG IS THE RESERVE? 375 hectares. The reserve stretches all the way back towards Red Hill and over the road above the Stonehaven Estate. 3. DO WE HAVE TO PAY TO COME IN? No. Entry into the reserve is free of charge. You may wander and explore around the gardens, but not beyond the barriers. 4. ARE THE FENCES ELECTRIFIED? Yes. Do not touch the wires. 5. WHERE’S THE SWIMMING POOL? There was a swimming pool previously. It has now been miraculously transformed into a duck pond. Our webbed footed friends are very happy about that and you can watch them happily swimming around. 6. CAN WE FEED THE ANIMALS? You can feed the ducks with bread. The other animals are fed twice a day by our farm rangers. 7. DO YOU HAVE GAME RIDES? No we no longer have rides available. This was stopped many years ago, due to the vehicles being attacked by the buffalo. This proved to be too much of a liability. 8. CAN WE SEE THE ANIMALS? Yes you can. The animals are mainly viewable in the front area of the reserve. They are all free to roam up the mountain though, so they may not be there when you are. 9. WHAT IS THE RESERVE EXACTLY? The Reserve is a buffalo-breeding project. These buffalo are bred as disease free. Buffalo carry TB, as well as a variety of other diseases and the buffalo here, are bred to be disease free making them very unique. 10. WHAT ELSE IS ON THE RESERVE? There are rondavels, which are the Wellness Center. Here you will find individual businesses including a hairdresser and masseuse. There is also RIOJA RESTAURANT and BAROCCA LOUNGE. 11. IS THERE ACCOMMODATION ON THE RESERVE? There are two properties on the Reserve that are currently rented out to full time tenants. We do not have short-term accommodation or a hotel. 12. IS THERE AN AREA FOR CHILDREN? Yes we do have a very nice jungle gym area, as well as a lot of grounds for the younger (and older) generation to explore. |
